WELLINGTON GIRLS - Nat Buchanan

Introduce Yourself?
Hey, I’m Nat and I’m a model and creative based in Sydney. I genuinely like sunsets and long walks on the beach and sometimes treat myself to baby custard at Woolies. Apparently that’s weird.
What does a normal workweek consist of for you?

As any model would know, there’s no such thing as a ‘normal’ work week. When it rains it pours, and when it’s quiet, it can be really quiet. But the unpredictability of it couldn't be better suited to my personality. I’m usually doing something model-related 4-5 days a week between shooting, castings, and self-tapes.

How long have you been a model and when/how were you scouted?

I’ve floated in and out of modeling since I was 17 but only in the last 2 years committed to it full-time. I’d always had one-foot-in, one-foot-out before, choosing to explore what I’d studied which was film production. I think it’s so beneficial to have many interests and explore them all. I was scouted on Instagram by my current agency.
The best piece of advice you have ever received.

There’s someone out there way less qualified or talented than you, doing what you want to be doing and making it work. I think too many of us let Imposter Syndrome stop us from being who we want to be.

The best piece of advice I’ve told myself recently is: consistency is more
important than talent.
What is your everyday go-to beauty look?

Dewy bronzed skin, glossy lips, SPF 50+.

As the cooler months approach us, what are your wardrobe staples?

I’m living in relaxed suit pants, straight-leg jeans, oversized men's shirts and blazers, Adidas sweats, tank tops, and lots of chains.
Do you find yourself wearing a uniform on repeat or do you experiment with fashion?

My fashion choices are dependent on my mood and hairstyle, and I like to express this in the colours, layers, and textures that I wear. These days comfort trumps everything, even style. If I’m feeling experimental, I love a mismatched look whether it’s prints clashing or something tailored with something relaxed.
Are you a morning person or an evening person?

Morning! I’ve always loved how much promise the start of a new day holds.

What are 3 self-care rituals you can't live without?

1. Exercise
2. Giving and receiving love
3. Being kind to myself
What songs are on your self-care playlist?

Billy Idol - Rebel Yell is the ultimate hype track to me. It just fills me with good, happy energy and it’s my go-to before an audition.
How do you unwind?

I love YouTube. Watching video after video is completely mindless and I love that for unwinding. I also love ‘window’ online shopping which means I never actually buy anything but find it therapeutic to adds things to my cart anyway.
What does self-love mean to you? How do you practice it?

At its core, it means not being an asshole to yourself. I felt bullied by my own mind for years and it was only when I decided to treat myself as a friend, that I was able to attract better opportunities and people into my life. I practice self-love by treating myself how I would treat others, actively giving myself compliments, and acknowledging my achievements. It can feel hard and inauthentic at times, but like anything, it gets easier the more you do it.
What are you most looking forward to in 2021?

Growth! I want 2021 to be the year of "realising things". I felt so shut off to myself for years and have only in recent times established a better dialogue with myself. I want to keep deepening my understanding of me and refining my skills in modeling, acting, and business.
